Coir Kerala 2017 - October 05-09
'An International Event on Kerala Coir & Natural Fibre Products'
Alappuzha, Feb 5: Coir Kerala 2016 turned out to be an excellent platform for interactions between international market and traditional artisans of Kerala with the Coirfed stall at the annual event attracting enquiries from business representatives from over 20 countries with big export potential.
Alappuzha, Feb 5: A 3-D coir-based panelling system that absorbs sound and heat could offer a superior, low-cost and organic alternative to synthetic acoustic design products in homes, offices and theatres.
Alappuzha, Feb 5: The National Coir Research and Management Institute (NCRMI) has debuted a low-cost and fully-automatic powerloom at the ongoing Coir Kerala 2016, displaying the research-and-development agency’s latest stride in mechanization amid a bid to woo the younger generation to the traditional sector.
Alappuzha, Feb 4: Contrary to the notion that mechanisation of the coir spinning sector reduces the involvement of women in the cottage industry, ongoing research suggests that the sector is becoming more women friendly.
Alappuzha: Gardening enthusiasts and home growers scouting for an organic, effective and relatively inexpensive substitute to plastic containers may have now found a way out — the coir-derived ‘multi-grow basket’.
Alappuzha, Feb 3: Buyers from 54 countries interacted with sellers and exhibitors at the buyer-seller meet here today as part of Coir Kerala 2016, which is expected to generate business deals and export orders worth more than Rs 250 crore.
Alappuzha, Feb 3: The Coir Kerala event’s social media activity—via platforms like Facebook—which has improved since last year, has made consumers in the US aware of the ‘coir’ product, said former CEO of US-based firm Cotton Incorporated John Nicholas Hahn.
Alappuzha, Feb 3: Often discarded as unwanted and unusable, the coconut husk has a number of practical applications beyond serving as mulch, Coir Kerala 2016 was told today. An international seminar at the five-day event saw expert Prof. Edwin R. P. Keijsers outlining the qualities and benefits of flatboards made up from coconut husks.
Alappuzha: If the looks and quality of the items put on sale at the stall of Kerala’s Coir Development Corporation are any indication, then the public-sector entity is giving good competition to private entrepreneurs in the industry.
Alappuzha, Feb 3: Russia has shown renewed interest in Kerala’s coir, as an eight-member team of traders and manufacturers from Moscow has shown keenness to buy the Kerala product—some for the first time.
Alappuzha: Two elegantly-built pavilions and a host of cultural programmes largely define the bustle of activities at Coir Kerala 2016 even as the ongoing international event here has set up a string of facilities for the visitors and delegates for all the five days.
Alappuzha, Feb 2: Sustainability and biodegradability are keywords in product development today, and the coir sector could ride the wave of this trend by moving from producing mats to manufacturing composite particle boards that have varied applications, according to a European expert.
Alappuzha, Feb 2: With traditional coir industry broadening its reach to new-age lifestyle segment, Coir Kerala 2016 is exhibiting a diverse range of products that is attracting buyers across the globe.
Alappuzha, Feb 01: A host of issues related to the diversification of coir and natural fibre products and the sustainability of the state’s coir industry will come for debate during a series of seminars over three days starting tomorrow (Tuesday, February 2) at Coir Kerala 2016.
