Coir Kerala 2012
Bringing the coir industry together…
Inspired by the success of Coir Kerala 2011, the Government of Kerala, in association with the Department of Commerce, Government of India, conducted the second edition of the event ‘Coir Kerala 2012’ from February 4-9, 2012 at the EMS Stadium in Alappuzha.
The event was inaugurated by Shri Oommen Chandy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala State at a function presided by Shri Adoor Prakash, Hon’ble Minister for Coir, in the presence of eminent personalities. More than 10,000 coir workers for the coir industry were present at the function.
Coordinated by the Thiruvananthapuram based National Coir Research & Management Institute (NCRMI), the six day event which showcased the strength f the Kerala Coir industry, captured global attention as it brought together the entire coir and natural fibre fraternity – commercial and technical – across the world, paving way for greater opportunities for sustained and scientific development if both domestic and export trade.
The event has international buyers from 32 countries and hundreds of national buyers participating in it, along with export firms and domestics entrepreneurs who exhibited the best of their products.
Well organised in every aspect, Coir Kerala 2012 offered world class infrastructure to its participants and visitors with a strategically located venue complete with a uniquely designed arch gate, huge domes and there spacious pavilions and lounges that were made to look spectacular with festoons and illuminations, all under tight security cover. The event was made colourful with art performances that showcased the vibrant and royal heritage of Kerala.
